Summary 2015 marks a significant turning-point evolution of the international strategy for education policy and adult education. After a more global orienation in the 1960s and 1980s, more recently considerations are directed at the real educational options and at makeing adult education a partner in solving problems in a regional and/or community perspective. By UNESCO agendas, through its world conferences (CONFINTEA I-VI) and by the continuous work for expert committees, the fundament was laid to define the terrain of adult education in more detail and to design ways of concrete action. In 2015, education and adult education became part of the worldwide campaign towards the reduction of poverty and emerged from being marginalized and ignored. In the future, adult education has to pay more attention to indicator-based research and to measures for monitoring.
