"This thesis is about pre-service teachers' perceptions and experiences of environmental education practice in pre-service primary education. In the field of environmental education, teacher education has been labelled the 'priority of priorities'. However, contrary to policy expectations, lack of pre-service teacher education has been identified as a significant barrier preventing and/or limiting the implementation of environmental education in primary schools. Research shows us that environmental education pedagogical practice in teacher education is scant. More specifically, research is now required to explain existing patterns of environmental education provision and to identify reasons as to why teacher education programs are failing to adequately prepare students in the area of environmental education. This thesis seeks to contribute to such ends."--Abstract.
