Abstract
Im Zeitraum 15. August 2005 bis 14. August 2007 haben neun Universitäten aus Europa und Lateinamerika unter der Federführung der Leuphana Universität Lüneburg im Rahmen eines Projekts die Grundlagen für einen gemeinsamen Master-Studiengang ′Sustainable Development and Management′ erarbeitet. Dieses Vorhaben wurde durch das ALFA-Programm der Europäischen Union gefördert.

Die Ergebnisse der zweijährigen Arbeit werden in einer Veröffentlichung dokumentiert, die aus zwei Bänden besteht. Im hier vorliegenden Band 1 dieser Publikation werden das Curriculum des Masterprogramms, die Rahmenbedingungen und Anforderungen sowie Modulbeschreibungen vorgestellt, so dass transparent und nachvollziehbar wird, unter welchen Voraussetzungen ein solches Studienprogramm zu realisieren ist. Weiterhin enthält dieser Band Ausführungen zu den von den Studierenden zu erwerbenden Kompetenzen, wobei der Ansatz der Gestaltungskompetenz eine zentrale Rolle spielt, wie auch Hinweise zum inter- und transdisziplinären Arbeiten, das im Rahmen des Masterprogramms neben fachspezifischen Aspekten einen großen Stellenwert einnimmt. Überlegungen zum virtuellen Lernen, das ebenfalls ein Kennzeichen des Masterstudiums ist, eine ′Toolbox′ mit praktischen Hinweisen und Arbeitsunterlagen für die Lehrenden sowie Ausführungen zur Evaluation und Bewertung der studentischer Projektarbeiten schließen diesen Band ab.

Alle am Projekt Beteiligten hoffen, dass diese Veröffentlichung hilfreich ist und sie die internationale Zusammenarbeit in der Ausbildung von Studierenden zu Fragen der nachhaltigen Entwicklung befördert. Bislang gibt es noch viel zu wenige internationale Kooperationen zwischen Hochschulen verschiedener Kontinente, insbesondere im Kontext nachhaltiger Entwicklung.
