Abstract: Environmental education generally refers to curriculum and programs which aim to teach people about the natural world and particularly about ways in which ecosystems work Environmental education programs often aim to change people´s perceptions about the value of the natural world and to teach how to change environmental behaviours such as getting people to recycle or how to build eco friendly dwellings Environmental education is the teaching about eh natural and built environment which provides a real world context for learning by linking the classroom to the students community Students are engaged in hands on active learning that increases their knowledge and awareness about the environment Because environmental education encourages inquiry and investigation students develop critical thinking problem solving and effective decision making skills Environmentally literate students become citizens who are able to weigh various sides of an environmental issue and make responsible decisions as individuals and as members of their community Quality standards based environmental education improves everyday life by protecting human health and encouraging stewardship of natural resourcesEnvironmental education is a process aimed at developing a world population that is aware of and concerned about the total environment and its associated problems and which as the knowledge attitudes motivations commitments and skills to work individually and collectively toward solutions of current problems an the prevention of new ones
