Abstract: The proper management of hazardous wastes is an issue facing many communities, necessitating greater citizen involvement in the decision-making process. The study explored the effectiveness of two methods of presenting information concerning hazardous waste management alternatives. Two, one-day workshops, attended by community leaders, were held. Each workshop day was considered a treatment group. The two workshops, an on-site visit and a simulated (slide) site visit, were compared using pretest, posttest, and follow-up attitude and comprehension questionnaires. For the most part, no significant differences were found between the two treatment groups. However, significant differences in the attitudes held by those in technical and non-technical occupations were found.
