Abstract: Research, teaching, and outreach are often separated in academic objectives, but the potential benefits of integration are many, particularly in the field of environmental education. Students at The Ohio State University, School of Natural Resources, participated in a project designed to integrate research and service with teaching during Earth Week, 1990. The students administered an Earth Day Environmental IQ Test to members of the university community and used the research process as a focus for learning. The survey revealed significant differences in environmental knowledge, environmental concern, and frequency of participation at regional natural areas within various subpopulations. Students administering the instrument constructed a classification system based on interaction with respondents.
