Abstract: The goal of the current study was the creation of a scale to assess environmental values in adults and, eventually, children. As a first step, several subscales from the Children's Environmental Response Inventory (CERI; Bunting & Cousins, 1985)?pastoralism, urbanism, and environmental adaptation?were administered to a college population and a short form was then constructed. Like the CERI, the resulting 31-item questionnaire assesses values related to conservation, pollution, and urban/natural environments and appears to display the reliability and discriminative properties of the original scale. Future research is needed to confirm that the new short form of this measure remains valid for adolescents and is thus applicable for parent/child investigations.
