Abstract: This article provides an overview of the ENVISION program for enhancing middle school science teachers' understanding of environmental science and inquiry. Specifically, we detail the component of the project that engages teachers in conducting their own environmental research: conducting site surveys, designing the study, conducting the investigation, presenting results, and using technology in research and presentation. The article describes the theoretical basis for the professional development model, linking the model to the National Research Councils' inquiry and professional development standards.
