The report at hand investigates in an integrated approach household patterns of consumption and their impact on the environment in the field of energy and airborne emissions. The scope is not restricted on the energy consumption and the emissions directly caused by households, but includes also the indirect energy use and emissions occurring during the production of the consumed goods and services. Empirical investigations are carried out using household sample data and Input-Output data for West Germany, France and the Netherlands. By means of scenario projections, furthermore the environmental implications of different evolutions of consumption patterns in the future are explored.
