Summary "Bildung und Erziehung", first published in October 1948, is one of the most important special periodicals in post-war Germany dealing with the subject of pedagogics. Said periodical is a unique representative in view of reflecting the development and transformation of German pedagogics into a science of education which accentuates educational policy and which is based on empirical data, further disposing of broad cultural dimensioning and international orientation. This article outlines the conceptual development of „Bildung und Erziehung" - also with regard to its contents - on the basis of a systematic perusal of all issues from 1948 to 1997. Central emphasis is laid on the programmatic intentions pursued by the periodical as well as on the questions of continuity and change of its subjects and its achievements for pedagogical science and practice.
