AbstractSustainable development and Education for Sustainable Development are open and complex concepts. This essayframes severll central dimensions of Educationfor Sustainable Development based on the most current literaturefocussing on participation and democracy, networked thinking the composition of the future, as well as institutional learning processes. The case studies presented in this volume are examined according to these dimensions in order to identify traces of Education for Sustainable Development. Suming up it can be said in order to accomplish co-operations of educational research organisational and didactical settings were frequently crossed. The educational experiences were diverse as regards the depth of explicit reflection on learning and the examination of the composition of the future with its associated values and dilemmas. Action research has proved to be a valid concept and instrument for reflection and learning.
