AbstractWhat happens if educational institutions collaborate with projects aiming at the transdisciplinary generation of knowledge? Such research seeks local or globat solutions to problems and produces knowledge free of inter-subjectivity as well as of a value-free and de-contextualised notion, thereby eluding academic discourse. Instead, it emphasises communication and reflection. For educational institutions such cooperation creates a series of problems, particularly considering its strong emphasis on a subjectspecific focus. However, analytical inspection of the concept and case studies of the Austrian Landscape Research Programme reveals a number of new opportunities: The cooperation with trans-disciplinary, problem-oriented research considers knowledge itself as the subject of investigation, thus opening up opportunities for learning and representing a moment of emancipation.
