Abstract:

This article describes important milestones of an education for sustainable elevelopment in the international discussion since the world summit in Rio and gives an overview about the conceptional progress in different world regions. The author directs the reader's attention to the role of civil-societies participation and explains education for sustainable development as a concept for education that should encourage change processes not only on the individual level but also on the institutional and societal level.
